Kurt Angle is headed to the WWE Hall of Fame.
ESPN made the blockbuster announcement Monday, revealing the former WWE Champion as the first confirmed inductee and headliner of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017:
Kurt Angle, the 1996 U.S. Olympic gold medalist who performed for WWE from 1998 to 2006 as a six-time WWE world champion, will headline the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017.

Angle told ESPN that he was shocked by the announcement and that he personally found out about the induction from WWE’s own Triple H:
Hunter said they never forgot and he called and told me this is the first thing they want to do. And whether I wrestle or not after this — which is irrelevant right now — I’m just really proud to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Although Angle’s Hall of Fame induction is sure to get people talking about the possibility of another match, Angle went out of his way to make it clear that his inclusion in the Hall doesn’t guarantee he’ll wrestle for WWE again:
We have not talked about any wrestling. Whether we do or not, that remains to be seen… There are no guarantees. I think right now the most important thing is the Hall of Fame — and I think both sides feel that way.”
Angle will headline what is shaping up to be a star-studded Class of 2017, one that, according to WrestlingNewsWorld.com, is rumoured to include “Ravishing” Rick Rude, Diamond Dallas Page, William Regal, Christian and IRS.
Because Angle didn’t completely shut the door on an in-ring return, let the speculation begin about whether or not Angle will wrestle one last match. We’ve seen in the past with a major name like Sting that a Hall of Fame induction and a return to the ring often go hand in hand, and WWE is loaded with potential dream opponents for Angle like AJ Styles, John Cena and Seth Rollins.
At least for now, Angle is returning to WWE simply as a soon-to-be Hall of Fame. But in the future, who knows what will happen?
Either way, if someone asks if Angle is really back in WWE, you can tell them, “Oh, it’s real. It’s real.”
